The case histories of two premenopausal women with steroid-treated systemic lupus erythematosus, who suffered acute myocardial infarction, are presented. One patient died. The pathoanatomic substrate was coronary atheromatosis and thrombus formation. The causal relationship between systemic lupus erythematosus, steroid treatment and coronary artery disease is discussed.
