Before final decision is made to utilize an internal mammary artery (IMA) for coronary bypass, the status of the IMA should be ascertained by arteriography. Four examples are detailed that show severe ooclusive, aneurysmal, or degenerative wall disease in or about the IMA. In the presence of such abnormalities, the IMA should not be used for coronary bypass.
