1 Division of Radiation Therapy
2 Chief, Department of Pathology
Between 1963 and 1971, 88 patients with chest x-ray findings suggestive of lung cancer were treated with radiotherapy. Sixty-four patients had positive sputum cytology. Twenty-four patients had neither tissue nor sputum cytology confirmation of malignancy. Patients treated with an incorrect diagnosis were uncommon. Objective and subjective improvement was observed in more than 70 percent of patients. Radiation-induced complications were infrequent.
