Aortic cannulation utilizing a partial occlusion clamp for the introduction and the removal of the cannula has been employed in more than 800 operations. Only two nonfatal complications have been observed. Hemostasis is achieved by wedging of the cannula into the aorta and not by pursestring suturing! Aortorrhaphy is deliberate, bloodless and exacting.
